Why I Hate Gigs…

Continuing with my Manga Studio adventures, I thought the next step would be to create a comic using this program entirely. I’m getting more confident with my graphics tablet now so I’m determined to continue with Manga Studios.

So… why do I hate gigs? Well, I think the comic below says it all. I love music and I do love live shows occasionally (if the bands are right) but when it involves being uncomfortable, standing in a noisy sweatbox for a few hours well… that’s really not for me.

Manga Studio

It’s been a while but lying in bed, exhausted and with a wee bug has actually done wonders for my creativity. I dusted off my graphics tablet and gave Manga Studio a proper good go. I’m not quite there yet but it’s a terrific program and really easy to use compared to Photoshop. Results below!

I find it way easier drawing women as opposed to men.

Tan Bluebell Hunter

Inspired by my Dad telling me about his retired ex accountant – Tan. He collects rare bluebells now and shoots rabbits.

Experimenting!

Over the last few weeks I’ve been experimenting with different programs – Illustrator and Manga Studio.

I’ve always found Photoshop really hard to use so I thought I’d give Illustrator a wee go. I know that you can do good things on programs like Photoshop and Illustrator but I find them extremely difficult and fiddly to use.

This took me a few days and I wasn’t that happy with the outcome. It was sketched and inked using Illustrator.

Illustator

I was then recommended Manga Studio by my cousin. This program was super easy to use and I was left with a result that was more in line with what was in my head.

Manga Studio

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve so many ideas for comics and I’m ready to start getting serious about them.

A Wee Sketch

Just a wee sketch, more warming-up, although I’m not feeling the superhero / heroine sketches at the moment. I’m having more fun with my little cartoon-y webcomics but I’m sure I’ll get back into it eventually.

the3six5 – “365 days, 365 points of view”

Last year I stumbled across the3six5 via Twitter. The project posts a blog a day with a picture or illustration by a different person for every day of the year, it’s “365 days, 365 points of view.”

After reading over some of the blog entries, I thought it was a fantastic idea so I applied to be one of the authors for 2012. I was given a day – 21st February 2012 – and a list of guidelines. At that point, February 2012 seemed like miles away but it crept up pretty quick. So last night I submitted my blog. I was a little nervous as I had no idea what I was going to write about because yesterday was like any other but I refused to write about the mundane like The Brits or Pancake Day so I just brain splurged, drew a quick comic and pressed send. I didn’t even know those thoughts were floating around in my head but they were. It’s surprising what comes out when you’re not even thinking properly. That doesn’t make sense I guess but it does to me!

You can read my blog post on the3six5 website and do read through some of the others, there’s some good stuff there!

Big love – Wee C x

Bubble World is back!

Right, I’ve finally got my arse in gear and managed to bosh out some comics. There are more lined-up for the blog and others are, well, still in my head but I’ll get them out at some point.

Bubble World #5 was inspired by a recent trip to Hampstead with our friends Jess and Chris. After a party, we headed back home and got caught in the snow. It was really wonderful and we ended up making a 15-minute journey back to Chris’ house last well over an hour. It was the most fun we’ve had in years acting like big kids again.

If you can’t see the image below, you can view the comic HERE.

Enjoy!

Hello… is it me you’re looking for?

Well, well… it’s been a super long time since I bothered to update this blog. I’ve not forgotten about it but it’s been a case of life taking over a little. Since October I’ve had a birthday, there’s been Christmas time relaxing, lots of Skyrim, then work, work, work and here we are in February already!

There’s no point in me listing all the ways I’ve been so caught up with work and things so I’ll just let you read this link instead. It was our latest A Badge of Friendship newsletter, you can get the gist from that.

So what about comics? Well, they’re always on my mind really and I feel incredibly guilty for not picking up my graphics tablet or a pen / pencil and paper for over 3 months now. I started warming-up again this weekend. I always love a good, detailed pencil drawing to get back into the creative swing. Results below!

I was thinking about last year’s new year’s resolutions and this year I’ve decided to make no resolutions but just promise myself to improve upon everything I did / started last year – work, health, arty stuff, spending time with friends, having fun with Paul. I would like a holiday though. I’ll keep playing the lottery… see how that goes.

Right, I was going to draw some comics but, surprise, surprise, something’s come up and I’ve a little more work to do. Watch this space though, I intend to fill it with lots more art and comic stuff very soon!

Much love and thanks for reading – Wee C x
