A Song A Day: The Downtown Lights – ‘Modern Realism’

The Downtown Lights was founded by Briag Maruani four years ago. They’re based in Pigalle, Paris and their track ‘Modern Realism’ is pure, catchy indie rock.

“This song is about hating and loving the place where you grew up and where you live. It’s about how we try to make life less boring by hurting or kissing people. About the way modern life with social media takes away our sense of reality making everything ephemeral and dull.”

This is a sentiment I can get on bored with, particularly the last sentence.

‘Modern Realism’ is definitely harder edged than their other tracks on Soundcloud, which range from electro to modern new wave.
