A Song A Day: Chastity – ‘Manning Hill’

Before summer, I’d been rummaging through little music blogs online looking for new tunes for our FUBAR Radio show (tiny plug alert… Mondays 6-8pm!). I just happened to come across Chastity and I’m not sure what compelled me to click on the link. I don’t usually download free EPs from random band’s websites but I just thought ‘why not’. I’m so glad I did. You’ve no idea.

The initial EP I downloaded was a random collection of Chastity songs, a band from Whitby, Ontario – the brainchild of front man Brandon Williams. Now signed to Hand Drawn Dracula (I’m sure I’ll be posting lots of HDD releases here over the coming months), Chastity’s first proper release on the label is the EP Tape.

I’m a huge fan of this band so choosing one song was hard but it had to be Manning Hill. This track just embodies that sweaty, hedonistic, alt indie of the early 90s with a distinct Sonic Youth flavour akin to their 1992 album Dirty. The video pretty much gets it spot on.

Grab Chastity‘s Tape EP via Hand Drawn Dracula, you won’t be disappointed.
